Jammu, Feb 16 (NationPress) A brief gunfire exchange took place on Sunday along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of J&K.

Officials reported that an Indian Army post was targeted from a wooded region across the LoC in the Gulpur sector of Poonch.

"The Indian soldiers responded, and the gunfire exchange was of short duration. Fortunately, there was no damage on the Indian side. It remains uncertain whether the firing originated from the Pakistan Army or from terrorists concealed in the forests, waiting for a chance to infiltrate," officials noted.

Previously, terrorists had shot at an army patrol in the Krishna Ghati sector of the same district.

Recently, five terrorists were neutralized while attempting to cross into the Indian territory in Poonch. One of the terrorists triggered a landmine placed by the Indian army as part of an anti-infiltration strategy along the LoC.

On February 11, two army personnel, including a captain, lost their lives due to an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in the Akhnoor sector of the LoC, which was reportedly set by terrorists.

This winter has seen minimal snowfall, keeping traditional infiltration routes open, causing the army to maintain heightened vigilance along the LoC. Additionally, security forces and police are on alert in the interior regions.

In a recent security review meeting led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, strict directives were issued to ensure zero infiltration and a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism.

Security forces are actively conducting operations against terrorists, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.

L-G Sinha presided over two security review meetings last week, one in Srinagar and another in Jammu. He instructed the security forces to ensure that those who harbor terrorists face consequences, discouraging them from providing shelter and logistical support.
