Jammu, February 8 (NationPress) - Suspected militants launched an attack on an army patrol in proximity to the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir this past Saturday, according to officials.

The event transpired in the Keri sector of Rajouri.

"Around 2 p.m. today, a patrolling unit of the army came under fire from suspected terrorists across the border near Baratgala in the Keri sector of Rajouri. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. This incident occurred in the forward area of the LoC during the afternoon and is thought to be the work of terrorists from across the border. In response, soldiers fired several rounds. Search operations are currently ongoing in the vicinity," an official stated.

On the previous day, five Pakistani militants lost their lives in a landmine blast near the LoC in the Battal sector of the Poonch district. Officials indicated that this incident took place while the militants attempted to infiltrate into India from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), resulting in one of them accidentally triggering a landmine planted along the border.

This explosion claimed the lives of all five.

Areas adjacent to the border fence in J&K are extensively mined by the army as part of their anti-infiltration strategy. This region, often referred to as ‘No man’s land’, is restricted for both patrolling soldiers and locals residing close to the LoC.

This winter, the mountains have seen minimal snowfall, keeping all infiltration routes open for the terrorists. Consequently, the army and security forces are on high alert along the border and in the hinterland. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who presided over a high-level security review meeting regarding J&K earlier this week, mandated zero infiltration and zero tolerance towards terrorism in the region.
