Indian Army Engages After Detecting Suspicious Movement at LoC in Rajouri
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, March 4 (NationPress) In a significant development, the Indian Army fired upon observing suspicious activity along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir this morning. Around 4:30 a.m., soldiers stationed at the LoC detected individuals attempting to cross the boundary fence.
Officials reported, “The Army promptly responded by firing towards the identified location, effectively preventing a potential infiltration attempt. Additional forces have been deployed to the area, and a thorough search operation has commenced.”
Further information is expected soon.
Just recently, on February 19, the Army thwarted another infiltration attempt in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri. Troops from the White Knight Corps acted swiftly, detecting suspicious movements of terrorists and responding with precise fire, successfully averting the infiltration.
Jammu and Kashmir features a 740-km long LoC that spans the districts of Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora in Kashmir, as well as Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu district in the Jammu division.
Moreover, there is an international border of 240 km that runs through the Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts of the Jammu division.
The LoC is primarily defended by the Army, while the Border Security Force (BSF) is tasked with securing the international border.
The Army and BSF are actively stationed along the border in the union territory to counter infiltration, exfiltration, cross-border smuggling, and to mitigate drone activities initiated from the Pakistani side.
In the past, terrorist groups have utilized drones, aided by Pakistani forces, to deliver arms, ammunition, cash, and drugs, thereby supporting terrorism in the region.
The J&K Police, along with security forces, diligently conducts robust anti-terror operations within the area, targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers. This coordinated effort aims to dismantle the entire support network for terrorism rather than merely targeting armed terrorists.
Additionally, security forces have also focused on drug traffickers and hawala money racketeers, as it is believed that the proceeds from these illegal activities are ultimately used to fund terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
