New Delhi, June 7 (NationPress) More than 33 crore consumers across the nation now enjoy the convenience of receiving LPG cylinders at their doorsteps within just a few hours of placing an order, as stated by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Saturday.
Marking World LPG Day, the minister attributed this impressive outreach and efficiency to the government's relentless efforts to ensure that clean cooking fuel is available to every household.
Discussing the transformative impact of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), he emphasized the program's remarkable success in altering cooking methods across India, particularly in rural and isolated areas.
“Over 10.33 crore women have benefited from free LPG connections under PMUY, enabling them to shift from traditional fuels to safer and cleaner LPG,” the Union Minister shared on the social media platform X.
“This revolution has not only enhanced health outcomes by minimizing kitchen smoke but has also freed up valuable time for women, thereby improving their quality of life,” Puri remarked.
He acknowledged the dedication of those involved in LPG production and distribution, noting that the cooking gas network now reaches nearly every corner of India—from remote villages to bustling urban apartment complexes.
“From distant villages to city buildings, LPG is simplifying cooking and promoting healthier lifestyles for families,” he added.
The minister highlighted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi administration's achievements in safeguarding consumers amidst escalating global energy expenses.
He pointed out that while international LPG prices have skyrocketed by almost 58 percent, PMUY beneficiaries in India can still acquire a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for just Rs 553, in comparison to Rs 853 for regular consumers.
The government has implemented several proactive measures to maintain fuel affordability, including two significant excise duty reductions and urging oil marketing companies to absorb price hikes.
Puri also noted that these initiatives have preserved countless trees from being felled for firewood and have prevented thousands of deaths linked to indoor air pollution.
