India expands space labs and research facilities: Dr Jitendra Singh at BHU
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
India is rapidly expanding access to advanced scientific infrastructure, space-related laboratories and cutting-edge research facilities across universities and institutions, Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh said on Sunday, 10 May. The Minister made the remarks during a visit to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, where he reviewed the Sophisticated Analytical & Technical Help Institute (SATHI) — a national-level interdisciplinary research facility backed by the Department of Science & Technology (DST).
What SATHI-BHU Offers
Established with a financial outlay of nearly ₹72 crore from the DST, SATHI-BHU functions as a shared scientific infrastructure facility operating through a Section 8 company model within the university ecosystem. The centre houses advanced instruments including Super Resolution Confocal Microscopy with Live Cell Imaging, high-end NMR spectroscopy systems, High Resolution Accurate Mass Spectrometry, clean room facilities, chromatography platforms, electrochemical workstations and isotope analysis systems. These tools are actively supporting research in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, semiconductors, life sciences, biotechnology, food sciences, environmental sciences and advanced materials.
What the Government Said
Dr. Singh stated that the DST is scaling up scientific infrastructure and research support systems across universities and higher educational institutions to democratise access to advanced technology nationwide.
