New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) India’s overall exports, encompassing both merchandise and services, experienced a remarkable year-on-year increase of 11.05%, totaling $76.13 billion for February. Cumulatively, exports from April to February for the fiscal year 2025-26 are projected to reach $790.86 billion, compared to $747.58 billion during the same period in 2024-25, translating to an estimated growth of 5.79%, as per data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday.
In February, merchandise exports stood at $36.61 billion, slightly down from $36.91 billion in February 2025. For the April-February 2025-26 timeframe, merchandise exports totaled $402.93 billion, compared to $395.66 billion in 2024-25, reflecting a 1.84% increase.
The estimated value of services exports for February was $39.53 billion, up from $31.65 billion in February 2025. In the cumulative period of April-February 2025-26, service exports are expected to be $387.93 billion, compared to $351.93 billion during April-February 2024-25, according to the ministry's data.
Key contributors to the growth of merchandise exports in February included Engineering Goods, Electronic Goods, Organic & Inorganic Chemicals, Gems & Jewellery, and Meat, Dairy, and Poultry Products.
Exports of Engineering Goods surged by 12.90%, from $9.17 billion in February 2025 to $10.36 billion last month. Electronic Goods exports also saw an increase of 10.37%, rising from $3.79 billion in February 2025 to $4.18 billion last month.
Exports of organic and inorganic chemicals grew by 6.85%, from $2.23 billion in February 2025 to $2.38 billion last month.
Gems and jewellery exports increased by 4.08%, rising from $2.53 billion in February 2025 to $2.64 billion in February 2026. Exports of Meat, Dairy, and Poultry Products experienced a notable increase of 22.66%, from $0.45 billion to $0.55 billion last month, according to the data.
During April-February 2025-26, merchandise imports were $713.53 billion, compared to $657.46 billion during April-February 2024-25. The merchandise trade deficit for the same period was $310.60 billion, up from $261.80 billion in 2024-25.
The Commerce Ministry further highlighted that the estimated value of service imports for April-February 2025-26 is $186.98 billion, compared to $181.23 billion in April-February 2024-25. The services trade surplus for this period stands at $200.96 billion, compared to $170.69 billion in 2024-25.
