New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) As of now, India Post operates a staggering 1.64 lakh post offices throughout the nation, aided by an exceptional team of 2.78 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS), as stated by Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in Parliament on Wednesday.
In his address to the Lok Sabha during the current winter session, the minister praised the Gramin Dak Sevaks for their relentless dedication, emphasizing that they not only facilitate business but also convey emotions between people, highlighting their invaluable contributions.
Scindia showcased the remarkable advancements made under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the government has prioritized the enhancement of India Post over the past 11 years.
He pointed out that in the last three and a half years, 4,903 new post offices have been established in regions affected by Left Wing Extremism, significantly bolstering last-mile connectivity.
Moreover, 5,746 post offices have been sanctioned for unbanked villages, with approximately 97 percent of them, or 5,657, already operational.
Overall, the national network has seen an expansion of 10,170 post offices during this timeframe. The minister also highlighted that Rs 405 crore has been allocated for the construction and renovation of post office buildings, including 49 heritage post offices regarded as institutional treasures of India Post.
While acknowledging the substantial progress, Scindia noted that additional funding is essential for renovating the remaining 25,000 post offices managed by India Post.
Looking ahead, he declared that India Post is initiating a comprehensive Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) strategy to modernize and optimize operations.
This initiative aims to improve first-mile, middle-mile, and last-mile delivery systems, making them faster, more service-oriented, and digitally equipped for millions of citizens.
Furthermore, he mentioned that India Post is embracing automation and analyzing global best practices to position itself as one of the world's leading logistics carriers. The government remains dedicated to strengthening the postal network, enhancing service delivery, and transforming India Post into a modern, technology-driven logistics powerhouse for the nation.
