Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 30 (NationPress) India has effectively shielded its citizens from price volatility, ensuring that the global upheaval has not been transferred to the consumer, stated Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri. He addressed concerns regarding the impact on consumers amidst global price fluctuations.
In an official statement released on Friday, Puri asserted that India has showcased remarkable readiness to navigate persistent geopolitical instability in global energy markets and will remain a pivotal player in international energy discussions.
During the closing ceremony of the 'India Energy Week (IEW) 2026' in Goa, he remarked that India now boasts some of the lowest energy prices globally, with a consistent supply maintained even during crises. He highlighted timely interventions by oil marketing companies to keep fuel prices, including LPG, affordable for consumers.
The minister also underscored the government’s commitment towards compressed biogas (CBG), green hydrogen, and homegrown clean energy technologies, while still investing in conventional fuels.
“While traditional energy remains crucial, our advancements—from ethanol blending to CBG, hydrogen, and biofuels—instill confidence that greener energy sources will increasingly play a significant role,” Puri remarked.
Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, mentioned that with an anticipated economic growth of over 7 percent, energy demand will surge.
“Our strategy focuses on two main pillars: enhancing domestic exploration and production, and establishing India as a dependable supplier of refined products globally,” said the Secretary.
He delineated ambitious objectives to expedite upstream activities, including more drilling and exploration to boost self-sufficiency.
The Secretary also emphasized the integration of refining and petrochemicals to maximize value addition and minimize imports. “We are expanding domestic scale while remaining competitive on a global front,” he added.
Regarding the energy transition, Dr. Mittal highlighted the significance of technology and digitalization.
“From optimizing logistics to AI-powered efficiencies, technology is becoming essential in reducing costs and enhancing operational resilience,” he pointed out.
