Hardeep Puri: India's Energy Security Through Diverse Imports Amid Middle East Strife
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) - India is actively addressing its energy requirements by expanding its import sources beyond West Asia, in response to increasing geopolitical tensions in the area, asserted Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday, while reassuring the public that domestic gas supplies are secure.
During a casual meeting with media representatives, Puri noted that India is maintaining energy imports from various sources and supply channels, which guarantees a steady fuel supply for the nation despite the ongoing conflicts in the region.
"In our recent informal discussion with the media, we highlighted that India's energy imports are consistently arriving from diverse sources and routes," the minister stated.
He further mentioned that the government has implemented numerous measures to ensure that fuel supplies remain uninterrupted for households and essential sectors.
Puri indicated that the government is ensuring that domestic consumers continue to receive their full allocations of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG).
Industries are receiving about 70–80 percent of their gas needs, despite challenges arising from the ongoing conflicts.
"We have taken necessary actions to guarantee a complete supply of CNG and PNG to residential consumers, while other industries continue to receive 70–80 percent of their requirements, even in the midst of the conflict," he shared in a post on X.
The minister underscored the government's commitment to providing an uninterrupted supply of affordable energy for households throughout the nation.
"We are dedicated to ensuring a continuous supply of affordable energy to our domestic consumers," Puri affirmed.
"There is no shortage for domestic consumers, and there is no reason for alarm," Puri reiterated, emphasizing that the government is vigilantly monitoring the situation and taking proactive steps to protect India's energy security.
