New Delhi, Oct 21 (NationPress) Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri declared on Tuesday that approximately 67 million Indians frequent fuel stations each day, illustrating the nation's rising energy requirements in tandem with its swift economic advancement.
Pointing out India's remarkable development, Puri noted that the country has ascended to become the world’s fourth-largest economy, boasting a GDP of $4.3 trillion and achieving a robust 7.8 percent growth in the first quarter of FY25-26.
“India currently consumes around 5.5 million barrels of oil daily, highlighting the scale of its burgeoning energy demands,” Puri shared via the social media platform X.
The minister disclosed that India's gas pipeline network, currently measuring 24,500 km, is set to expand to 33,000 km by 2030 to facilitate broader energy access.
Additionally, he revealed that more than 10.60 crore households have received LPG connections under the Ujjwala Yojana, while 1.55 crore homes are linked through piped natural gas (PNG).
“The nation now boasts approximately 8,300 CNG stations serving millions of vehicles daily,” the Union Minister remarked.
Reinforcing India's commitment to clean and sustainable energy, Puri noted that 114 compressed biogas (CBG) plants are operational, with rapid advancements in green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) initiatives.
