New Delhi, April 25 (NationPress) Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Friday emphasized that over the past decade, the quantity of CNG stations offering eco-friendly fuel for vehicles in the nation has surged by more than 20 times. Additionally, the number of households utilizing piped cooking gas has seen a remarkable 5-fold increase, while LPG connections have more than doubled.
This advancement not only signifies an enhanced lifestyle for the populace but also accelerates the mission of 'Healthy India with Clean Fuel'.
“With the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we’ve observed a 2,300 percent increase in CNG stations, a 467 percent rise in PNG connections, and a 128 percent boost in LPG connections over the last decade,” the minister shared on X.
“These statistics are not mere numbers; they represent the culmination of our commitment. They demonstrate that significant transformations are achievable through innovative thinking, genuine intentions, and diligent effort,” Puri stated.
The minister further noted that these statistics not only provide convenience to the citizens but also propel the initiative of 'Healthy India with Clean Fuel'.
“These accomplishments have fortified the foundation of a developed India, upon which the construction of a grand vision for the nation has commenced,” he concluded.
According to a recent study by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), India’s natural gas consumption is projected to increase by nearly 60 percent by 2030 as the country aims to lessen its reliance on oil imports and transition to cleaner energy sources for transportation, cooking, and industrial purposes.
PNGRB has established gas infrastructure across 307 geographical areas, ensuring extensive access to natural gas for domestic, commercial, industrial, and transport sectors, the report highlights.
The City Gas Distribution (CGD) sector is anticipated to be the main catalyst for growth, with consumption estimated to rise by 2.5 to 3.5 times by 2030 and 6 to 7 times from the current base of 37 mmscmd in FY24, as indicated in the report.
The demand encompasses sectors such as fertiliser, power, refineries, petrochemical industries, and households, alongside CNG and LNG for transportation, with reasonable timelines for planning and constructing pipelines, as noted in the report.
Natural gas consumption is expected to escalate from 188 million standard cubic metres per day in 2023-24 to 297 mmscmd by 2030 under the 'Good-to-Go' scenario, which is based on moderate growth and existing trends and commitments. It is projected to further rise to 496 mmscmd by 2040 under the same scenario.
