India Diversifies LPG and LNG Supply Routes Amid Crisis
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing crisis in West Asia leading to a liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) shortage, India has successfully secured LPG and LNG supplies through alternative routes.
Government officials have indicated that these supplies from different locations are expected to arrive in the country shortly.
Importantly, Indian refiners have ramped up domestic LPG production by 10% following directives from the government to enhance cooking gas output.
Reliance Industries Ltd’s Jamnagar oil refining complex is set to maximize its cooking gas LPG production.
In a statement, the company noted, "In the face of global energy market fluctuations, ensuring consistent access to essential fuels for households in India is a national priority."
Additionally, natural gas sourced from the KG-D6 Basin will be redirected to meet the demands of priority sectors, adhering to national energy strategies and government regulations.
“Reliance Industries is actively working to maximize LPG production from our refining and petrochemical facilities at Jamnagar, recognized as the world’s largest integrated refining hub. Our teams are dedicated to optimizing refinery operations and boosting LPG output, ensuring stable and reliable supplies for the domestic market,” the company stated.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri emphasized that India is diversifying its energy import sources beyond West Asia due to escalating geopolitical tensions, assuring the public of the stability of domestic gas supplies.
Puri also mentioned that India continues to receive energy imports through various channels and supply routes, thereby maintaining fuel availability in the face of ongoing regional conflicts.
He highlighted that the government has implemented multiple measures to guarantee unbroken fuel supplies for households and essential sectors. Puri confirmed that domestic consumers will continue to receive full supplies of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG).
Industries are currently receiving approximately 70-80% of their gas needs, despite the challenges posed by the conflict.
The minister reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring an uninterrupted supply of affordable energy to households nationwide.
