Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 14 (NationPress) On Saturday, the government announced a significant increase in domestic LPG production, reporting a rise of approximately 31 percent. This move is aimed at ensuring a steady supply of cooking gas amidst the changing geopolitical landscape in West Asia.
The announcement was made during the fourth inter-ministerial media briefing, where representatives from the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas, External Affairs, Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and Information and Broadcasting provided insights on energy supplies, maritime operations, and the safety of Indian citizens in the area.
Officials from the Petroleum Ministry indicated that all refineries across the nation are functioning at optimal capacity and maintaining sufficient crude oil reserves.
According to the officials, India has achieved self-sufficiency in petrol and diesel production, eliminating the need for imports to satisfy domestic demand.
They also emphasized that there have been no instances of fuel shortages at petrol stations nationwide and urged consumers against panic buying, as there are ample stocks of petrol and diesel available.
Despite this, the demand for LPG has surged recently due to an increase in panic bookings.
Additionally, daily LPG bookings have skyrocketed from an average of 55.7 lakh to around 88.8 lakh.
Nevertheless, there have been no reports of outages at LPG distribution points thus far.
The government is prioritizing the supply of domestic LPG, particularly for households and critical sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.
Commercial LPG cylinders have also been made available to state governments for priority distribution when necessary.
To alleviate the pressure on LPG supplies, industries, hotels, and restaurants within the National Capital Region have been temporarily permitted to utilize alternative fuels such as biomass pellets, coal, or kerosene where natural gas is not accessible.
State governments have ramped up enforcement efforts to combat hoarding and black market activities involving LPG cylinders, conducting inspections and raids in multiple states.
In related news, the government confirmed that there have been no new shipping incidents involving Indian seafarers in the last 24 hours, assuring that all Indian crew members in the area are safe.
