Bengaluru May 9 (NationPress) The Information Technology (IT) industry in India is experiencing significant expansion, with a year-on-year (YoY) increase in hiring activity of 16 percent for April 2025, according to a recent report released on Friday.
Key to this growth is the swift development of Global Capability Centres (GCCs), which have generated over 110,000 new tech roles during the financial year 2024-25, as reported by the jobs platform foundit (formerly known as Monster APAC and ME).
This surge in hiring occurs despite an 11 percent month-on-month decline in April, attributed to typical seasonal patterns.
Overall, the future looks bright, with steady demand across various experience levels and a growing emphasis on specialized, future-ready skills.
V. Suresh, the CEO of foundit, stated that the sector is transitioning into a phase of ‘strategic growth'. He pointed out that India is shifting from quantity-driven hiring to a focus on skill-based, innovation-oriented employment.
“This evolution mirrors India’s larger ambition to equip its youth for global leadership in science and innovation,” he remarked, noting that tier-2 cities are becoming vital players in the digital economy.
GCCs are pivotal in this transition, particularly in fields like data engineering, DevOps, and enterprise architecture.
The findings illustrate a broader shift in India’s IT hiring practices—from mass recruitment to a quality-centric approach focusing on sought-after skills.
There is a rising demand for positions in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
These fields now account for 95 percent of job postings within the IT sector.
Moreover, employers increasingly prioritize practical skills over formal qualifications, with 62 percent of companies now emphasizing skills over educational credentials.
In terms of remuneration, specialized roles offer attractive salaries. Entry-level positions in AI begin at Rs 7.2 lakh annually, while experienced AI professionals can earn as much as Rs 76.4 lakh.
Cybersecurity roles continue to command some of the highest salaries, with top earnings reaching Rs 87 lakh.
The report anticipates that the IT sector will expand by another 15 percent in 2025, fueled by increased AI adoption (now at 48 percent across industries) and a robust push toward digital transformation.
