Chandigarh, Oct 14 (NationPress) The Haryana Director General of Police, Shatrujeet Kapur, has been placed on leave in light of an ongoing investigation concerning the tragic suicide of an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. The Chandigarh Police have initiated a first information report (FIR) in response to a ‘final note’ left by Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, who reportedly took his own life on October 7.

This FIR was filed shortly after Puran Kumar's wife, a senior IAS officer named Amneet P. Kumar, appealed to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for action, urging the registration of an FIR and the suspension and arrest of those implicated in her husband's note.

Amneet has yet to consent to the autopsy of her husband, expressing concerns that “powerful, high-ranking officials of Haryana are involved in the case.”

Despite the passing of eight days since the tragedy, Puran Kumar’s body remains in a mortuary, as a stalemate persists between his wife and state officials concerning the arrests of DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and the recently ousted Rohtak Superintendent of Police, Narendra Bijarniya.

Political tensions are rising, with Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, scheduled to visit the late IPS officer’s residence in Chandigarh on Tuesday to offer his condolences.

State Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Hooda described the incident as deeply saddening, stating, “Our sole demand is for justice. It is the government's duty to ensure that the guilty are held accountable.”

In a show of determination, the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission expressed dissatisfaction with the Chandigarh Police's report regarding the suicide case. The police have established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe further.

Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi criticized the police report for lacking a copy of the FIR, raising questions about whether any action has been taken against the 14 individuals named in the deceased officer’s note.

Puran Kumar raises profound questions about accountability within the police force and the need for a thorough investigation.
