Bengaluru, Oct 14 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has vehemently criticized the Congress-led state government following the tragic suicide of a female librarian who took her own life due to unpaid wages, labeling it a “government-sponsored murder” and calling for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry.
“The demise of the librarian in Kalaburagi should not be dismissed as a suicide; it is a government-sponsored murder. An inquiry into this incident must be conducted by the CBI,” stated R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition, during a press conference at the BJP's state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru.
Ashoka indicated that Kalaburagi employees are currently engaged in a strike for justice. He expressed concerns that there may be an attempt to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to obscure the facts of the case.
“In Tamil Nadu's Karur, around 50 individuals lost their lives, and the government attempted to conceal this by forming an SIT. However, the Supreme Court mandated a CBI investigation. Hence, the inquiry into this tragic incident must also be assigned to the CBI,” he asserted.
Ashoka highlighted a series of suicides, including those of librarians due to unpaid salaries, contractors facing non-payment of bills, police suicides linked to transfer commission scams, and numerous farmers who have taken their lives due to lack of compensation from government aid amidst droughts and floods.
“This is a government of destruction. It has bankrupted the populace and provided a 'suicide guarantee' as its sixth promise. These are not merely Congress ministers; they are akin to Yama, the god of death, offering death guarantees. This government is synonymous with murder; it is shameful,” he proclaimed.
Ashoka further claimed that the circumstances surrounding the death note in Kalaburagi have been obscured, alleging that Congress representatives are attempting to settle the matter with monetary offers.
“This is a destitute government, one that holds a begging bowl. It is worse than Himachal Pradesh. If the leadership, including Siddaramaiah, were proficient in basic arithmetic, such a tragedy would not have occurred,” he remarked.
The heartbreaking suicide of the female librarian, stemming from unpaid wages, was reported on Tuesday in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district. The BJP directed its ire towards the Congress-led government, stating it laid bare its financial ineptitude.
Bhagyavati V. Aggimath, a 40-year-old librarian, tragically ended her life at the Arivu Centre on Monday in Mulakheda village, Sedam taluk, Kalaburagi district, leaving a death note behind. She had dedicated six years to her role as a librarian.
