New Delhi, Sep 6 (NationPress) Under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', we are swiftly progressing towards the goal of 'make in India and for the world', stated Amit Agarwal, the Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, on Saturday.
While speaking with IANS during the three-day 'India MedTech Expo 2025', Agarwal noted that previously, India produced merely 10 percent of its medical equipment; now, that number has surged to 30 percent in just the last five years.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, the nation initiated numerous policy reforms under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative. Initially, only 10 percent of the nation’s medical requirements were manufactured domestically, but it has now escalated to approximately 30 percent,” Agarwal explained.
Production of premium products has also advanced to 20 percent, he mentioned.
This marks the second iteration of the MedTech Expo, where over 100 companies from 30 countries conducted more than 1,000 business meetings.
The Secretary highlighted that international firms are not only interested in class A and B products but are also keen on class C, which includes technically advanced products.
He noted that numerous companies are also looking to export products, citing quality and affordability as key factors.
“We are exporting sophisticated devices such as MRI, dialysis, and dialyser machines, and have garnered significant interest from foreign firms during this session,” Agarwal emphasized.
We produce quality and affordable products for the international market at a rate that is 10-40 percent lower than competitors, he added.
During the inaugural session of the India Medtech Expo 2025 and the 11th International Exhibition on Pharma and Healthcare, Union Minister Piyush Goyal remarked that the GST reform was a pivotal step towards achieving 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.
“We are advancing towards creating a self-reliant India that is committed to the welfare of 140 crore citizens. The GST reform will align with our collective ambition to make India a developed nation by 2047,” the minister stated.
The country is set to evolve into a prosperous and developed nation where opportunities are available for all, fostering a narrative of inclusive and sustainable growth, he added.
