New Delhi, Oct 29 (NationPress) Elon Musk recently made headlines by criticizing Wikipedia, asserting that his innovative platform Grokipedia will outshine the widely-used online encyclopedia "by several orders of magnitude in breadth, depth, and accuracy."
This remark was made in response to a user on his social media platform X.
Developed by xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence firm and the creator of the chatbot Grok, Grokipedia is designed to compete with what Musk describes as a "woke" and biased Wikipedia.
Musk characterized Grokipedia as a "significant advancement over Wikipedia" that fits into xAI’s larger mission of enhancing humanity's understanding of the universe.
The concept for Grokipedia arose last month when Musk's associate David Sacks, known for his ties to former US President Donald Trump as an AI and crypto advisor, proposed that Musk create a Wikipedia alternative.
Musk concurred, stating that an AI-generated encyclopedia would be "crucial for civilization" as it would remove human bias and political influences from information dissemination.
When users search for topics on Grokipedia, they are presented with a list of related articles that have undergone "fact-checking by Grok" -- xAI’s conversational AI model -- along with timestamps indicating the last update of the information.
In contrast to Wikipedia, users cannot directly edit entries. Instead, they can propose corrections or report inaccuracies through a feedback form.
Notably, some content on Grokipedia includes a disclaimer indicating that it has been adapted from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License.
This suggests that the platform is still partially relying on Wikipedia’s data. However, Musk has expressed intentions to eliminate this dependency by year-end.
Currently, Grokipedia boasts approximately 885,279 articles, with expectations for rapid growth in the near future.
Musk has also confirmed that the underlying AI is open source, allowing unrestricted access for anyone to utilize or study it.
At this time, Grokipedia is accessible solely via web browsers, with no information yet on whether xAI will launch a mobile app for Android or iOS.
