New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance transparency and empower mobile users, telecom service providers (TSPs) have made mobile network coverage maps accessible on their websites, following a directive from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The coverage maps feature various user-friendly tools for straightforward access and navigation, utilizing a standardized color scheme.
Additionally, it allows users to check the coverage for specific technologies such as 2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G provided by the respective TSP in their chosen area.
By using search options or enabling location services on their devices, users can easily find their current location. The toggle switch or technology selection button can be utilized to select coverage maps for the technology of their choice, as stated by the Ministry of Communications.
The TRAI regulations stipulate that “Every service provider offering access service (wireless) shall publish on its website detailed geospatial coverage maps for various services, in a format as directed by the Authority over time, for the geographical regions where wireless voice or broadband services are available for consumer subscription.”
According to these regulations, the publication of mobile network coverage maps was to be finalized by April 1, 2025.
To facilitate easy access, links to mobile coverage maps have been centralized on the TRAI website. Users can also find coverage maps from various service providers on the TRAI site.
“Mobile subscribers are encouraged to provide feedback or report any significant discrepancies in coverage representation to their service provider through the feedback feature available on coverage maps. However, users should be aware that actual mobile coverage experiences can sometimes differ from what is displayed on the map, particularly in indoor settings, due to various dynamic parameters,” TRAI noted.
The mobile network coverage maps are not only valuable for subscribers but also outline the status of telecom coverage nationwide, which can be leveraged by different stakeholders for the planning and rollout of e-enabled initiatives.
These maps can also serve as a data-driven tool for evaluating the needs for any regulatory or policy interventions.
