New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) Takashi Nakajima has been appointed as the new President and CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), effective from April 1, as announced by the company on Monday.

Nakajima succeeds Takuya Tsumura, who is returning to Japan at Honda's headquarters after completing his tenure in India, according to Honda Motor Co.

Having joined Honda in 1994, Nakajima has been part of the esteemed automaker for over 30 years.

His extensive experience spans various key positions in multiple international markets including Japan, China, Spain, Czech Republic, and Russia across various domains.

Since 2021, he has been serving as President of Honda Motor Russia. In this role, he was responsible for Product Planning, Marketing, and Corporate Communication for Honda’s automobile sector in the domestic Japanese market, as reported by the company.

During his three-year tenure in India, Tsumura played a key role in enhancing Honda's premium brand image, improving customer-centric solutions, and promoting the company's profitable growth.

He was pivotal in launching several premium models in India, including the country’s first mainstream hybrid vehicle, the Honda City e:HEV, the new global SUV Elevate, and the All-New Third Generation Amaze, while also laying the groundwork for future releases like Honda’s inaugural Battery Electric Vehicle for the Indian market.

Under his leadership, HCIL experienced significant growth in its export operations, highlighted by the commencement of Elevate exports to Japan.

In February, Honda Cars India recorded total sales of 10,323 units, with domestic sales at 5,616 units and exports at 4,707 units last month.

According to Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Honda Cars India Ltd, the automotive market has faced challenges, including a decrease in car registrations and difficulties in generating new demand in February compared to the previous year.

“With new incentives introduced in the Union Budget 2026 aimed at boosting overall consumer demand, we anticipate improvements in the upcoming period. On the export front, we continue to achieve robust volumes, driven by the strong performance of Elevate and City in international markets,” he stated.
