New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) In support of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, the London-based tech firm Nothing revealed on Monday that its upcoming Phone (3a) series will be produced within the country.
During the announcement, the smartphone manufacturer emphasized that this decision reflects the company’s pledge to leverage India’s robust manufacturing ecosystem, contribute to the local economy, and promote technological progress.
The Nothing Phone (3a) Series is being assembled at the company’s facility in Chennai, which boasts a workforce of over 500 employees. Remarkably, 95 percent of the personnel at this site are women, the company stated.
According to Counterpoint Research, Nothing has achieved a remarkable 577 percent year-over-year growth in India’s smartphone segment in 2024, propelled by the strong demand for the Phone (2a) Series and its sub-brand CMF by Nothing.
Furthermore, Nothing recently eclipsed $1 billion in total revenue, just four years following its launch in October 2020.
As per the latest government statistics, around 99.2 percent of mobile devices sold in the country are now locally manufactured, with the manufacturing value surging to Rs 4,22,000 crore, and exports exceeding Rs 1,29,000 crore in 2024.
India is producing between 325 to 330 million mobile devices annually, and there are approximately a billion mobile phones currently in operation in the country.
As India transitions into a global manufacturing hub, the emphasis will increasingly shift toward deepening involvement in the value chain, particularly in the production of components and semiconductors.
Additionally, Nothing announced that its retail footprint has expanded from 2,000 outlets at the start of last year to 7,000 stores at present.
The Nothing Phone (3a) Series showcases a fusion of British design brilliance and Indian manufacturing proficiency.
