In an interview with IANS, Pandian shared that the South India Natural Farming Summit 2025, officially opened by PM Modi at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore, was a resounding success.
“The Prime Minister has assured that a policy framework will be created by the Central government to advance organic farming, with hopes for a comprehensive national-level initiative,” Pandian stated.
He emphasized the need to safeguard the Western Ghats and the wildlife inhabiting the region while ensuring secure human settlements.
“It's essential to prevent animals from threatening human lives. We have articulated our requests to the Prime Minister to avert agricultural devastation. The Prime Minister has directed this matter to the Governor,” Pandian added.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi received a warm welcome from the South India Organic Farmers Federation at the summit.
During the summit's inauguration, PM Modi highlighted India's commitment to sustainable agriculture.
Additionally, he announced the release of the 21st installment of the ‘PM-KISAN’ scheme, allocating ₹18,000 crore to support 9 crore farmers nationwide. Each farmer benefits from an annual financial assistance of ₹6,000.
In Tamil Nadu, 21.8 lakh farmers have benefited from this initiative, including 44,837 from Coimbatore district.
The farmers honored the Prime Minister with a traditional garland and gifted him a symbolic kaalavandi (bullock cart) as a memento. PM Modi also presented awards to those excelling in natural farming and engaged with scientists and trained practitioners.
This summit attracted thousands of organic farmers from across South India, marking one of the largest congregations focused on natural and sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
