6,000 PNG Users Release LPG Connections to Assist Others
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 29 (NationPress) In a remarkable act of solidarity, 6,000 consumers of PNG have voluntarily relinquished their LPG connections to increase the availability of LPG for those lacking access to piped natural gas amidst the ongoing disruptions caused by the Iran conflict, as disclosed by a senior official from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry on Sunday.
“A total of 6,000 PNG users have given up their LPG connections as of yesterday. A heartfelt thank you to them! We encourage others to join this courageous group of DoGood citizens who are stepping up to assist those who need LPG but lack PNG,” stated Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of Petroleum and Natural Gas, in a post on X.
“You can surrender yours today at http://MyPNGD.in,” he urged others who still rely on LPG despite having PNG connections.
Meanwhile, over 54 lakh LPG refills have been successfully delivered up to Saturday, with the distribution of domestic LPG cylinders remaining stable, despite the current geopolitical challenges affecting supply chains. There are no reports of shortages at LPG distribution centers, and online bookings for LPG cylinders surged to 91 percent on an industry-wide basis yesterday, according to the ministry.
To curb diversion at the distributor level, the implementation of Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) based deliveries has risen significantly from 53 percent in February 2026 to 84 percent currently.
The ministry also confirmed that all refineries are operating at full capacity, with sufficient crude inventories in stock.
“The nation is maintaining adequate supplies of petrol and diesel. Domestic LPG production from refineries has been enhanced to meet local consumption requirements,” the official statement noted.
Consumers are being prioritized with 100 percent supplies to domestic PNG and CNG transport. Supplies to industrial and commercial consumers connected to the grid are maintained at 80 percent of their average consumption.
“Ongoing raids in various states/UTs aim to combat hoarding and black marketing of LPG. Approximately 2,900 raids have been executed, leading to the seizure of over 1,700 cylinders yesterday. Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have issued more than 390 show cause notices to LPG distributors to date,” the statement added.
All retail fuel outlets across the country are functioning normally. Additionally, the government has reduced excise duties on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre.
