New Delhi, Nov 17 (NationPress) On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with a delegation from the 16th Finance Commission (XVIFC), headed by Dr. Arvind Panagariya, the Commission's Chairman.
The Commission unveiled a comprehensive report that outlines a five-year strategy beginning on April 1, 2026, which includes recommendations for the equitable distribution of tax revenues between the Union and the States. It also addresses the allocation of respective shares among the States, grants-in-aid provisions, and the review of funding strategies for Disaster Management efforts, among other critical areas.
“Had a productive meeting with the 16th Finance Commission delegation led by Arvind Panagariya,” the Prime Minister shared on X.
Previously, the XVIFC had presented their findings to President Droupadi Murmu and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Throughout its term, the XVIFC rigorously examined both Union and State finances and compiled its report following extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including the Union Government, State Governments, local governance bodies, past Finance Commission members, prominent academic institutions, multilateral organizations, and other experts in the field.
“The report will be made publicly available once it is presented in Parliament by the Union Finance Minister under Article 281,” stated an official communique.
The XVIFC was established by the President of India and is chaired by Dr. Arvind Panagariya.
The XVIFC also comprises members such as Annie George Mathew, Dr. Manoj Panda, T. Rabi Sankar, and Dr. Soumyakanti Ghosh, with Ritvik Pandey serving as Secretary to the Commission.
