Rabi Crop Area Grows to 558.8 Lakh Hectares

New Delhi, Dec 16 (NationPress) The current rabi crop season has seen a total area sown of 558.8 lakh hectares, an increase from 556.6 lakh hectares reported at this time last year, as stated by officials on Monday.
The area dedicated to wheat cultivation has risen to 293.11 lakh hectares (ha), compared to 284.17 lakh hectares during the same timeframe last year.
The area under pulses has been documented at 123.27 lakh hectares, while 38.75 lakh hectares have been allocated for Shri Anna (millets) and coarse cereals, and 91.60 lakh hectares have been reported under oilseeds.
This expansion in the sown area is anticipated to boost the production of critical food items, potentially helping to reduce inflation within the economy.
Looking forward, food inflation is predicted to decrease, and the economic growth outlook remains 'cautiously optimistic' for the upcoming months. The agricultural sector is expected to gain from favorable monsoon conditions, increased minimum support prices, and sufficient input supply, according to the Finance Ministry’s monthly economic review from last month.
Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das mentioned earlier this month that 'India’s growth story remains intact and inflation is on a downward trend'.
The RBI Governor expressed optimism regarding the economic outlook, stating that 'the balance between inflation and growth is well positioned'.
The slowdown observed in the Indian economy during the second quarter of 2024-25 is a thing of the past, as private consumption has returned to driving domestic demand, with festive spending invigorating real activity in Q3, as noted in the RBI’s monthly bulletin for November.
The report highlights that rural India is becoming a lucrative opportunity for e-commerce companies this festive season; this trend is expected to gain further strength due to the notable increase in kharif production and positive expectations surrounding rabi output, paving the way for a record foodgrains target for 2024-25.
