Seoul, May 14 (NationPress) Samsung Electronics announced on Wednesday that it has successfully acquired FlaktGroup Holding, a ventilation company based in Germany, for 1.5 billion euros (equivalent to $1.68 billion), marking the company’s most significant acquisition in approximately eight years.

The South Korean tech giant has entered into an agreement with the European investment firm Triton to obtain a full 100 percent stake in the German heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) firm, as reported by Samsung Electronics.

Roh Tae-moon, the acting head of the device division at Samsung Electronics, stated, "With the acquisition of FlaktGroup, a specialist in applied HVAC solutions, Samsung is laying the groundwork to emerge as a leader in the global HVAC market, providing a complete range of solutions to our clientele," as reported by Yonhap news agency.

"We are dedicated to ongoing investments in and the advancement of the rapidly expanding HVAC sector as a crucial engine for future growth."

This acquisition represents Samsung’s most substantial deal since its $8 billion acquisition of Harman International back in 2017.

FlaktGroup, located in Herne, western Germany, specializes in delivering energy-efficient air solutions for a variety of facilities, including data centers, airports, museums, and commercial structures.

This move is viewed as part of Samsung Electronics’ larger strategy to establish new growth avenues across the HVAC, robotics, medical technology, and consumer audio industries.

Notably, the global HVAC market is expected to expand from $61 billion in 2024 to $99 billion by 2030, reflecting an annual growth rate of 8 percent, according to market research predictions.

Samsung anticipates significant opportunities in the HVAC sector, particularly as the demand for data center solutions surges due to advancements in generative AI, robotics, and autonomous technologies.

By integrating its building control systems with FlaktGroup’s HVAC technologies, Samsung aims to enhance its service and maintenance offerings, creating an all-encompassing suite of energy management tools.

Samsung has also been broadening its HVAC portfolio with a focus on ductless systems for both residential and commercial applications. In May 2024, the company established a joint venture with Lennox International Inc. to boost its HVAC presence in North America.
