New Delhi, Aug 17 (NationPress) The South Korean technology leader, Samsung, is significantly ramping up its manufacturing operations in India, focusing on advanced tech devices such as laptops, as stated by Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
This expansion serves as a substantial boost to the 'Make in India' initiative, with India’s electronics production skyrocketing from $31 billion to $133 billion over the past decade starting from 2014-15. Moreover, electronics exports have surged by over 47 percent in the first quarter of 2025-26 compared to the same period in 2024-25.
“Samsung is expanding its production of advanced technology devices in Bharat, fueled by local talent and innovation,” Vaishnaw mentioned in a post on X.
He added that the company’s research division in Bharat employs over 7,000 engineers.
The Indian government has implemented various measures to support the country's goal of becoming self-reliant in manufacturing. Consequently, the number of mobile manufacturing units has jumped from just 2 in 2014 to more than 300.
In the first quarter of the current fiscal year (Q1 FY26), India's traditional PC market—encompassing desktops, notebooks, and workstations—experienced a 7.1 percent rise in shipments, totaling 3.39 million units, according to IDC. This reflects a positive trend in the PC sector.
Additionally, Samsung India recently announced that its newly introduced, ‘Made in India’ Galaxy Z Fold7 has gained remarkable traction not just from tier 3 markets, but also from tier 4 and beyond, amid a robust economy and increasing aspirations nationwide.
“The astounding demand has compelled us to distribute stocks of the Galaxy Z Fold7 throughout deeper regions of Bharat. We are greatly encouraged by the new demand emerging from tier 4 and beyond, and we will strive to meet these market needs effectively,” said Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President and Head at Samsung India.
The company is currently facing unprecedented demand for the Galaxy Z Fold7, with the smartphone being out-of-stock in certain regions across the nation. Necessary measures are being taken at the manufacturing facility in Noida to satisfy this extraordinary demand.
