New Delhi, Sep 6 (NationPress) Under the visionary initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the electronics manufacturing sector has rapidly transformed into a leading industry in India, achieving a remarkable six-fold increase in production over the last 11 years. This growth has elevated the sector to a staggering Rs 11.5 lakh crore valuation, as stated by Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a press briefing on Saturday.
During the conference held at the BJP headquarters, the minister highlighted that electronic products exports have surged eightfold during this timeframe, with the industry now employing over 25 lakh individuals.
"In the past 11 years, electronics manufacturing has significantly expanded in India. The production has increased six times, while exports have risen eight times, making it a Rs 11.5 lakh crore industry that provides jobs to 25 lakh people," the minister explained.
Vaishnaw revealed that India has commenced the manufacturing of every component necessary for electronic products within the nation.
"For instance, when we consider a mobile phone, every element—be it the glass, cover, chip, printed circuit board (PCB), or camera module—is now being produced domestically," the minister noted.
He further announced the recent inauguration of a factory in Sohna, Haryana, dedicated to manufacturing batteries for smartphones.
With a demand for 50 crore batteries, this single factory is expected to produce 20 crore battery packs, as per the minister's insights.
He encouraged citizens to embrace locally-made products as much as possible. "It’s time for a self-reliant India where everyone is enthusiastically adopting 'Swadeshi'. I urge all to increase the use of 'Swadeshi' products in daily life," Vaishnaw remarked.
The minister also noted that with recent GST reforms, Prime Minister Modi has provided significant relief to middle-class families.
He assured that prices for various household electronic devices—including televisions, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, and power banks—are set to decrease.
Overall, the tax burden has been lessened on all items, from food to essential household goods, as highlighted by the minister.
