New Delhi, July 21 (NationPress) Senior IAS officer Sanjay Kaul has officially assumed the role of Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of GIFT City, which is recognized as India’s inaugural smart city and International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) located in Gujarat. He takes over from Tapan Ray, a retired IAS officer who successfully guided GIFT City since 2019, contributing significantly to its expansion and development.
Upon taking charge, Kaul expressed that it is an honor to lead GIFT City during this crucial phase of its evolution.
“It is a privilege to assume leadership of GIFT City at this critical juncture in its mission to establish itself as a globally competitive financial and technology center,” Kaul remarked.
He emphasized his eagerness to build upon the solid groundwork already established, implement innovative strategies, and cultivate international collaborations to elevate GIFT City as a premier financial and technology hub.
“I am committed to enhancing the robust foundation that has been laid, steering strategic initiatives, forming global alliances, and providing a world-class urban experience that solidifies GIFT City’s reputation as a project of national significance,” he noted.
Kaul, an officer from the 2001 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), brings over 20 years of extensive experience in public policy, infrastructure, technology, and finance.
Prior to his current appointment, he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture. He has also held key roles in Gujarat, including positions as Managing Director of Gujarat Informatics Limited and the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited.
Originally hailing from Gujarat, Kaul possesses a degree in electronics and communication engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Surat, as well as a degree in public policy from Syracuse University in New York, USA.
Recently, the Gujarat government's General Administration Department (GAD) issued a formal notification regarding his appointment on July 15.
According to the GAD notice, Kaul’s tenure at GIFT City is set for a duration of three years from the date he takes charge, or until further notice.
