Seoul, March 19 (NationPress) SK hynix announced on Wednesday that it has successfully shipped samples of the cutting-edge high bandwidth memory (HBM), specifically the 12-layer HBM4, to its key customers, marking a world-first achievement.
According to SK hynix's press release, the samples were delivered ahead of schedule due to the company's technological proficiency and extensive production experience that have positioned it as a leader in the HBM market. The organization is now poised to initiate the certification process for its clients.
While the specific customer names remain undisclosed, it is speculated that prominent U.S. technology companies, including AI frontrunner Nvidia Corp., are among the recipients, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
SK hynix revealed plans to finalize preparations for the mass production of 12-layer HBM4 products by the second half of this year.
Currently, SK hynix is at the forefront of the HBM sector with its state-of-the-art fifth-generation HBM3E offerings. HBM is crucial for graphics processing units (GPUs), a realm predominantly led by Nvidia.
In addition, during the GTC 2025 conference, an annual tech event hosted by Nvidia, SK hynix showcased samples of the 12-layer HBM4 alongside a small outline compression attached memory module (SOCAMM), a low-power DRAM memory module tailored for AI servers.
The event commenced on Monday and will span five days in California. SK hynix is displaying its most recent memory innovations under the theme “Memory, Powering AI and Tomorrow.”
At their booth, the company emphasizes its HBM and other memory products intended for AI data centers and automotive memory solutions essential for the AI era.
Top executives from SK hynix, including Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kwak Noh-jung, are scheduled to engage with global AI industry leaders during GTC 2025, aiming to enhance partnerships and explore future prospects in AI-driven memory technology, according to the report.
