New Delhi, Sep 11 (NationPress) Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) announced on Thursday its achievement as the first Indian enterprise to produce cutting-edge naval 3D Air Surveillance Radars through technology transfer from Indra of Spain.
In partnership with Indra, the initial system, known as the Lanza-N radar, has been successfully commissioned aboard an Indian Navy warship.
The Lanza-N represents the naval variant of Indra's long-range 3D radar, recognized globally as one of the most sophisticated systems for air defense and anti-missile operations.
Following this inaugural installation, additional radars will be deployed on Indian Navy frigates, destroyers, and aircraft carriers.
The radar's commissioning signifies a significant milestone in India's journey towards defense self-reliance.
This system has been assembled and integrated locally, with TASL establishing a specialized radar assembly, integration, and testing facility in Karnataka to expedite production and future deliveries.
The radar underwent rigorous sea trials prior to induction, utilizing various naval and aerial platforms to assess its capabilities. It is now completely integrated with all systems onboard the Indian Navy warship.
In discussing this success, Sukaran Singh, CEO and MD of Tata Advanced Systems, emphasized that the collaboration with Indra underscores a mutual commitment to bolstering radar manufacturing in India.
He noted that local expertise, a robust supply chain, and technology transfer are pivotal in cultivating an ecosystem for advanced defense systems.
Ana Buendia, Head of Indra’s Naval Business Unit, remarked that the partnership with Tata Advanced Systems transcends mere radar supply.
“Together, we have established a radar factory in Bengaluru, enhancing our capability to produce systems more efficiently and offer closer service to clients,” she stated.
The Lanza-N radar can monitor both friendly and adversarial air and surface targets, including drones, supersonic fighter jets, anti-radiation missiles, and naval vessels.
This deployment marks the first time the Lanza-N system has been utilized outside Spain, positioning India as the inaugural country to operate it beyond Indra’s home territory.
