New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) Tesla has made a much-awaited entry into India's rapidly expanding luxury electric vehicle sector, but the start has been rather modest, with only 157 units sold since the commencement of deliveries in September.
As per the government's Vahan portal, Tesla managed to deliver just 48 cars in November, falling short compared to established luxury competitors like BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
For context, BMW India sold 267 EVs in November alone, emphasizing the fierce competition that Tesla is up against in the premium market.
The US-based manufacturer launched its Model Y electric SUV as its inaugural offering in India, marking the commencement of its operations within the country.
Despite the initial buzz, the sales numbers indicate that Tesla still has a considerable journey ahead to rival the established luxury brands.
Even as sales gradually increase, Tesla is actively broadening its presence in India. Recently, the company unveiled its first all-in-one Tesla Centre in Gurugram.
This new facility, located at Orchid Business Park in Sector 48, aims to integrate retail, after-sales service, deliveries, and charging infrastructure under one roof, providing customers with a comprehensive ownership experience.
According to Sharad Agarwal, General Manager of Tesla India, the Gurugram centre represents a significant advancement in nurturing the growing Tesla community in northern India.
He mentioned that the company aspires to enhance electric mobility convenience by developing infrastructure that aligns with people’s daily routines – where they work, dine, and travel.
Agarwal stated that Tesla’s mission focuses on accelerating the transition to sustainable energy. By bolstering charging infrastructure and utilizing a direct business model, the company aims to enhance customer confidence and propel greater adoption of EVs in India.
Visitors to the new Gurugram centre can experience the latest Tesla technologies, take test drives of the Model Y, and access the state-of-the-art V4 Superchargers installed on-site.
Additionally, Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus Gen 2, is showcased, demonstrating the company’s advancements in AI and robotics.
