New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) The widely-used messaging platform WhatsApp, owned by Meta, experienced an outage on Saturday, impacting users in India who found themselves unable to send messages or upload status updates.

As reported by outage monitoring service Down Detector, approximately 81 percent of users indicated issues with sending messages, while 16 percent faced difficulties with the overall app experience.

A user on X expressed their frustration: “Is it just me or is your WhatsApp down as well? I am trying to upload a status, and it’s taking an eternity.”

There was no immediate comment from WhatsApp regarding the outage.

Some individuals also reported outages on Facebook and Instagram, both part of the Meta family.

“Hey @WhatsApp, is the app down? I’m struggling to send messages – they’re just not going through. Is anyone else experiencing this?” a user posted.

In late February, WhatsApp faced a significant outage, preventing many users globally from using the app effectively.

During that incident, users were unable to connect, send messages via the WhatsApp app or WhatsApp Web, or make calls. Down Detector recorded more than 9,000 complaints on that particular day.

Earlier on the same day, digital payments through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) resumed for most users after a nationwide outage that affected millions.

Several online payment platforms experienced disruptions, impacting local shopping, bill payments, and business transactions.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages UPI services, announced on X that the disruptions were due to technical complications.

“NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, causing partial declines in UPI transactions,” NPCI stated in a post on X.

“We are diligently working to resolve the issue and will keep you in the loop. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused,” it added.
