Bhopal, July 16 (NationPress) The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially endorsed the 'Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana', which will span six years starting in 2025-26. Farmers from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, are expressing their appreciation for this initiative, believing it will double their income and introduce essential reforms in the agricultural landscape.
In conversations with IANS, numerous local farmers hailed the scheme as a pivotal move that prioritizes their requirements in development.
Rajpal Singh, a farmer from the area, remarked, "The approved scheme truly serves the interests of farmers. It’s a commendable step that will enhance the rural economy and bolster the farming community. I extend my gratitude to Prime Minister Modi. This will assist us in doubling our income in the future."
Another farmer, Surendra Singh, stated, "This scheme is bound to be advantageous. It will boost farmers' efficiency and productivity. With improved infrastructure and support, we can dedicate more focus to our work. Thank you to the Prime Minister for this initiative."
Dhan Singh, another farmer in Bhopal, added, "This scheme will alleviate the agricultural challenges we encounter. From irrigation to storage, every aspect will see improvement. Such support is crucial for farmers today. I sincerely appreciate PM Modi for launching this initiative."
The scheme is inspired by NITI Aayog's Aspirational District Programme, marking a unique approach centered around agriculture and its allied sectors.
The objective is to enhance agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification, encourage sustainable agricultural practices, improve post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, enhance irrigation facilities, and facilitate access to both long-term and short-term credit, as per the official statement.
The announcement was part of the Budget proposals for 2025-26 aimed at developing 100 districts through the 'Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana'. The implementation will involve the integration of 36 existing schemes across 11 Departments, alongside state initiatives and local collaborations with the private sector.
A total of 100 districts will be selected based on three primary criteria: low productivity, low cropping intensity, and minimal credit distribution. The distribution of districts among states/UTs will depend on the proportion of Net Cropped Area and operational holdings, ensuring at least one district from each state is chosen, according to the official statement.
Committees will be established at District, State, and National levels for effective planning, execution, and monitoring of the scheme. A District Agriculture and Allied Activities Plan will be developed by the District Dhan Dhaanya Samiti, which will include progressive farmers as members.
The District Plans will align with national objectives of crop diversification, water conservation, soil health maintenance, self-sufficiency in agriculture and allied sectors, and the expansion of natural and organic farming.
The scheme's progress in each Dhan-Dhaanya district will be tracked using 117 key Performance Indicators on a monthly dashboard.
NITI Aayog will oversee and provide guidance on the district plans. Additionally, Central Nodal Officers assigned to each district will regularly assess the scheme, as detailed in the statement.
As the targeted outcomes in these 100 districts improve, the overall performance against key indicators will enhance for the nation.
