Actor Adhyayan Suman has opened up about the gruelling four-year journey behind creating Shekhar Tonite, a talk show hosted by his father, veteran entertainer Shekhar Suman, describing his singular mission as wanting to “give India back its OG star.” The show dropped on 16 May, with Adhyayan marking the occasion with a deeply personal note shared on Instagram.

Four Years of Rejections

In his post, Adhyayan was candid about the obstacles he faced while trying to get the show off the ground. “It took me 4 years to bring Shekhar Tonite to life. 4 years of rejections. 4 years of doors shutting on my face,” he wrote. He noted that industry voices repeatedly told him “It won’t work anymore” — a sentiment he refused to accept.

The Believer Who Changed Everything

Adhyayan credited producer Dharmesh Sangani as the turning point. Describing Sangani as “a fearless man away from films, yet someone who believed in a creator before believing in a business model,” Adhyayan recalled the words that kept him going: “Adhyayan, make this big. That man is an OG. Nobody can ever be like him. Give him the comeback he deserves.”

He also acknowledged creative collaborator Ritika, with whom he had previously attempted to build the project before timing intervened. “Maybe destiny was waiting for the right time. Today, she stands as one of the strongest forces behind this show,” he said.

The Team Behind the Show

Rahul Nair, described by Adhyayan as his brother and partner at Madrigal, is credited with crafting the show’s “soul and soundscape.” Adhyayan also acknowledged the quiet endurance of his mother, who he said “silently endured years of pain and suppression” through the process.

He thanked his partner Divita Rai and close friends for their support, adding: “And thank you to my mother, for praying the hardest through it all.”

Adhyayan’s Message to India

Framing the launch as more than a professional milestone, Adhyayan wrote: “I had only one mission: To give India back its OG star. To give his voice back. To remind people what charisma, intelligence, timing and presence truly look like.” He added that while the road ahead remains uncertain, his “heart is full — full of gratitude, full of emotion, full of belief.”
