Akshay Kumar on Bollywood's Language Debate: Hindi Remains My Choice
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 26 (NationPress) Renowned Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has shared his thoughts on the ongoing language discourse within the film industry, emphasizing his unwavering choice of Hindi as his primary language of communication, even during an era when English was often considered more prestigious.
"Back in the ’90s, I consistently announced my intent to speak Hindi at award ceremonies. In general, I prefer to communicate in Hindi. Even in various discussions where English is the dominant language, I respectfully inform my colleagues, you may converse in English, but I will stick to Hindi. It's where I feel most at ease," Akshay Kumar revealed in an exclusive interview with IANS.
The discussion highlighted that while English gained popularity in the 1990s, actors like Akshay Kumar and Govinda stood out by confidently conversing in Hindi, prioritizing their comfort over any perceived elitism.
Akshay further elaborated that for him, language transcends mere communication; it's about authenticity and comfort rather than societal perceptions.
Rajpal Yadav, also present during the interview, remarked that despite the diverse backgrounds of people on film sets, language has never posed a barrier.
"Consider this: a film set can have around 250 crew members from various linguistic backgrounds—Punjabi, Tamil, Malayali, Assamese, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and more. In this melting pot, language has never been an issue. Communication has always been seamless because everyone shares a love for cinema," Rajpal Yadav stated.
On the professional front, Akshay Kumar is preparing for his upcoming movie “Bhoot Bangla,” which features a stellar cast including Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, and the late Asrani.
Directed by Priyadarshan, this film marks a long-awaited reunion between the director and Akshay Kumar.
“Bhoot Bangla” is being produced by Balaji Telefilms and Balaji Motion Pictures and is set for release on April 10.
