Mumbai, June 7 (NationPress) Actor Akshay Oberoi emphasized the significance of representation and inclusion within the Indian entertainment sector, noting that the Hindi film industry largely overlooks the LGBTQ+ community.
Akshay remarked, "Bollywood may not recognize it, but a significant portion of the affection and support we receive comes from the queer community, which deserves acknowledgment. They have played a crucial role in our artistic journey.
He expressed that he has never felt concerned about the sexual orientation of the characters he portrays.
“As someone who values love and identity in every form, I’ve never been troubled by the sexual orientation of my roles. For me, it’s about narrating human stories, and every individual deserves recognition,” Akshay stated.
Reflecting on his role as a queer character in Inside Edge Season 3, he commented: “I wasn’t hesitant or disgusted to assume that role. Instead, it was an enriching experience to portray a character laden with internal strife and bravery. It’s simpler to play parts that fit the conventional hero mold.”
He further elaborated, “However, when given the chance to portray a character that defies societal expectations, you evolve not just as an actor but as an individual. Everyone should have the freedom to embrace their identity.”
