The film is a cinematic rendition of S. Hussain Zaidi's book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, narrating the tale of Gangubai Kathiawadi, a naive girl from Kathiawad who is coerced into prostitution and eventually emerges as a madam and a prominent persona in Bombay's red-light district.
