Mumbai, Oct 4 (NationPress) Playback singer Amit Kumar recounted an unusual trait of his father, Kishore Kumar, stemming from an incident where a director referred to him as dark-skinned.
In a recently resurfaced clip from one of Kapil Sharma’s shows, Kapil inquired about his father’s reputation for vengeance.
Amit shared, “My father had a great love for food. He would accompany my uncle, Ashok Kumar, for shoots. When asked if he could join, he initially declined. However, upon hearing there was food on set, he agreed. My father was just a young boy, around 9-10 years old, and Ashok was quite striking and fair. As they arrived, they were met with applause and photographs, including the director's attention.”
Amit recalled, “The director asked, ‘Who’s that?’. Ashok replied, ‘That’s my brother, Kishore.’ The director then commented, ‘He’s dark. Look how fair you are.’ This remark impacted my father deeply. He vowed that he would prove himself. Later, that same director approached Ashok to cast Kishore in a film. My uncle reminded him of the director’s previous words and said, ‘Kishore, he wants you to play the hero. Go meet him.’”
Amit continued, “My father accepted but had some stipulations. He declared, ‘When I meet him, I’ll roll in and stand on the table. He’ll join me on the table, and we’ll salute each other. It’ll be a business meeting, and I’ll leave dramatically.’ The director was infuriated.”
