Mumbai, Oct 15 (NationPress) Playback singer Amit Kumar shared a remarkable story about his father, Kishore Kumar, recounting how they captivated an audience of 25,000 at a West Bengal stadium despite the legendary singer’s vocal struggles.

A recently resurfaced video from one of Kapil Sharma’s shows showcases this unforgettable live performance.

Amit reminisced, “It was in Kolkata, Medinipur Stadium, in 1975. My father's throat was completely choked, and there were 25,000 people in attendance. Suddenly, Baba suggested, ‘Let me lip-sync to Amit's vocals from behind. And it happened. I did it’.”

He continued, “My father told me, Archana ji, in Bangla, ‘I can’t sing; my throat is choked. But my child will sing, and I will lip-sync. Will that work?’ The audience enthusiastically responded, ‘yes, chalega’ (it will work).”

There are countless intriguing anecdotes about Kishore Kumar, one of the most iconic figures in Indian cinema. Amit also discussed his father's unique reactions to comments made by a director regarding his skin tone.

Amit detailed, “My father had a great love for food. Whenever he went on shoots with my uncle Ashok Kumar, he would often decline invitations. But upon hearing there would be food on set, he would change his mind. One day, when Ashok entered, everyone gathered for photographs, and the director remarked on my father's darker complexion compared to Ashok’s fair skin.”

He added, “That comment affected my father. Eventually, that same director wanted to cast him in a film, and my uncle reminded him of the earlier remark. My father agreed to meet the director, but with conditions—he humorously described a scenario where they would meet on the table, rolling around and saluting each other, which left the director furious.”
