National Award-winning actor and producer Anjali Patil has spoken about the upcoming world premiere of her Tamil film 'Selvi' at the 31st Busan International Film Festival, calling it a defining moment for the entire team. The film will screen in the prestigious Vision – Asia section of the festival, scheduled from 6 to 15 October 2026.

'As an actor and producer, Selvi became my way of reclaiming creative independence for stories that need patience to be told,' Patil said. 'It's a personal, intimate observation of the ordinary people in healthcare who spend their lives caring for others, even as their own lives quietly wither. Premiering at Busan is a milestone we're incredibly proud of. We would be bringing Selvi back home, to the people to whom it truly belongs.'

The Story Behind the Film

Writer Sailesh described the film's quiet, observational approach: 'Selvi is about a woman moving through an ordinary day. I wanted the film to move with her, to stay close to her life without explaining it or asking it to mean more than it already does.' The film centres on an unnamed woman navigating the rhythms of her daily existence in the healthcare sector — a world of quiet sacrifice rarely examined on screen.

Production and International Support

'Selvi' is produced by Patil under her banner Anahat Films, which she founded in 2021. The film is co-produced by the Red Sea Fund, an initiative of the Red Sea International Film Festival, and carries the backing of Hong Kong Asia Film Financing. This marks Anahat Films' first full-length Tamil feature — a significant expansion of the banner's slate, which has previously spanned both fiction and non-fiction.

The production house has built a credible international footprint in a short span. Its earlier productions include 'The Moogai', which premiered at Sundance in 2023, and 'Baksho Bondi', which was showcased at the Berlinale in 2025. With 'Selvi' heading to Busan, Anahat Films has now placed films at three of the world's most prominent film festivals across three consecutive years.

What Comes Next

Following its Busan premiere, Patil indicated the team intends to bring the film to Indian audiences — the community, she noted, to whom the story 'truly belongs'. A domestic release timeline has not yet been announced. The Busan International Film Festival remains one of Asia's most influential platforms for independent cinema, and a Vision – Asia selection typically opens doors to wider festival circulation and distribution conversations.
