National Award-winning actor Anjali Patil's upcoming film 'Selvi' made its first international mark when its trailer was unveiled at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) ahead of the film's world premiere. The Tamil-language drama centres on a migrant home-care nurse navigating the invisible burdens of caregiving and cross-border labour.

'Selvi' follows the journey of its titular character — a migrant home-care nurse played by Anjali Patil — as she confronts the layered complexities of identity, dignity, and survival. Speaking about the film, Anjali Patil — who also serves as producer — said, 'Migration and caregiving are two subjects that the world has been discussing at length. People move across borders in search of work and dignity, while caregivers often become the backbone of families and communities, carrying emotional and physical responsibilities that remain largely unseen. With 'Selvi', we wanted to bring an Indian point of view to these very global conversations.'

She added, 'To now have the trailer of the film unveiled at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival feels meaningful. Independent cinema thrives on the freedom to ask difficult questions, to look at lives that don't always make it into the mainstream narrative. Debut director Sailesh Rathnakumar said the film grew from an observation made by writer Bargav during the pandemic — of home-care workers who cross borders and leave their own families behind to care for others. 'To see BIFF champion this narrative as one of only two Indian films in the Vision section is especially validating,' he said.
