Mumbai, Jan 9 (NationPress) The film 'Bun Tikki', starring actor Abhay Deol, a poignant coming-of-age tale, had its worldwide premiere at the esteemed 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) in California.
The event was attended by esteemed fashion mogul turned producer Manish Malhotra, debuting feature film director Faraz Arif Ansari, and the lead actor Abhay Deol.
Abhay expressed his admiration for the script of 'Bun Tikki' upon reading it.
“I evaluate a script when it resonates with me. I was captivated by the narrative, particularly the playful dynamic between the father and son. The essence of this film is about acceptance and diversity. In a world filled with negativity, this film highlights love and acceptance. We need more of that today,” he stated.
He believes that while stories don't always need a clear message, impactful narratives often convey one organically.
“It emerges naturally. The sincerity with which Faraz (the director) crafted this narrative was evident. The bond this man shares with his son, and the empathy illustrated in the film truly resonated with me,” he added.
“He isn’t a villain; he just struggles with understanding due to his own conditioning. The subject profoundly affected me,” he remarked.
During the screening, director Faraz Ansari shared that 'Bun Tikki' holds a special significance for him.
“It originates from the love and empathy my mother nurtured in me throughout my childhood. The abundant love and compassion at home equipped me with a unique strength, which I believe reflects in my storytelling; this will be my enduring legacy in filmmaking,” he mentioned.
“To advocate for love, to promote healing, and to remind the world that kindness is a virtue that triumphs repeatedly! This film embodies my mother's love,” he concluded.
Producer Manish Malhotra stated that the moment he read the script, he was determined to produce the film.
“For us, it’s a film brimming with emotion and love. It narrates a powerful story about the acceptance of children by their parents, just as they are. I think this mindset should be adopted by every parent, both in India and globally,” he emphasized.
“As a producer, I am committed to supporting films of this nature,” Malhotra affirmed.
Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Dinesh Malhotra, Marijke deSouza, and Manish Malhotra, 'Bun Tikki' also features notable actors Shabana Azmi and Zeenat Aman, along with Nushrratt Bharucha and Rohaan Preet Singh.
Set against the tranquil backdrop of Nainital, 'Bun Tikki' chronicles the journey of a seven-year-old named Shanu and his single father, Sidhant. As Shanu navigates self-discovery amidst societal challenges, Sidhant grapples with grief and societal expectations as a single parent striving to understand his child.
