Los Angeles, March 3 (NationPress) The short film Anuja, supported by Priyanka Chopra and Guneet Monga, has been surpassed by the Dutch film I'm Not a Robot at the 97th Academy Awards, which took place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Anuja narrates the story of a talented nine-year-old girl, who, alongside her sister Palak, encounters a pivotal moment that tests their relationship and reflects the challenges faced by girls globally. This film was vying for the Best Live Action Short award at the Oscars 2025.

Other films in the running included A Lien, The Last Ranger, and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent.

I’m Not A Robot is a science fiction piece directed by Victoria Warmerdam, centered on Max, who grapples with an existential dilemma after failing an online CAPTCHA test, leading him to question his own humanity.

In addition to Priyanka and Guneet, Anuja, which is currently available on Netflix, features Hollywood star and writer Mindy Kaling as a producer.

Directed by Adam J. Graves, Anuja focuses on the titular character, a nine-year-old girl working in a back-alley garment factory with her elder sister Palak. The plot follows her as she faces a crucial choice that could impact her future and her family's wellbeing.

This short film was developed in collaboration with Mira Nair’s Salaam Baalak Trust and stars Sajda Pathan in a key role. The production team includes Graves Films, Shine Global Inc (known for Oscar-winning films War/Dance and Inocente), Krushan Naik Films, and Salaam Baalak Trust.

In January, Priyanka expressed her pride in the “beautiful film” Anuja, where she serves as an executive producer.

On her Instagram stories, Priyanka shared a snapshot of a news article from variety.com featuring the headline “Netflix Acquires ‘Anuja,’ Oscar-Shortlisted Short Film Backed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Mindy Kaling and Guneet Monga Kapoor”.
