Veteran actor Anupam Kher has donated ₹5 lakh to the Assam Chief Minister's Relief Fund, extending financial support to families devastated by the ongoing floods in the state. The contribution was transferred via RTGS directly to the official relief fund to aid rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations across flood-affected regions of Assam.

The Donation and Its Context

The contribution follows an earlier public appeal by the 71-year-old actor, in which he urged citizens across India to stand with Assam amid what he described as severe and heartbreaking devastation. Kher had shared a video on Instagram highlighting the scale of suffering — from families losing homes and livelihoods to children and the elderly being forced to shelter in the open.

In his appeal, Kher said: 'Friends, I am feeling deeply saddened after seeing the pictures of this devastating flood. It is difficult to put into words the scenes we are witnessing on television and social media. Some people have lost their families, while others have lost their homes. Many children and elderly people are being forced to sit under the open sky.'

What Kher Said About the Floods

The actor, known for films such as Special 26 and Tanvi the Great, also drew attention to the plight of animals caught in the disaster. 'What pains me the most is seeing helpless animals struggling amid this disaster. When nature shows its fierce side, we realise how powerless we can become,' he said.

Kher added that collective, small-scale action could meaningfully ease suffering: 'If each one of us extends a helping hand in whatever way possible, it can make life a little easier for a family. It can bring hope to a child and give a mother the strength to believe that she is not alone.'

Call to Public Action

Alongside his own donation, Kher urged others to contribute to the Assam Chief Minister's Relief Fund, emphasising that the value of help is not determined by the amount but by the intent behind it. 'Those who wish to support financially can contribute whatever amount they can to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund,' he said.

The fund is being deployed to support relief and rehabilitation measures for flood-affected communities across Assam.
