Mumbai, Jan 19 (NationPress) Acclaimed actor Anupam Kher, who portrays Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan in the newly released film 'Emergency', delivered a poignant poem dedicated to Kashmiri Pandits on the occasion of Kashmir Hindus Exodus Day.

On Sunday, the esteemed actor shared a video on his IX (formerly Twitter) of himself reciting the heartfelt poem.

In the video, he expressed, “The home of Kashmiri Pandits, located just 4-5 km from the stunning Dal Lake, is enveloped by the aroma of saffron and concealed behind Pashmina shops along the narrow lanes of the old city. Along the historic banks of the Jhelum River, memories intertwine, and houses resembling half-burnt pyres remain unseen in films or sold on postcards. Yet, this is also Kashmir’s shattered glass of windows echoing from the rooftops.”

He continued, “The damp memories lingering in the courtyard, as the scorching sun traverses, seem to suffocate the silence of night, chased away by death. The palaces of Kashmiri Pandits remain untouched by time, haunted by stories akin to a child confined in an orphanage, unwanted and denied justice. The crime remains unacknowledged, and justice evades the homes of Kashmiri Pandits.”

The actor elaborated in a lengthy note in his tweet, stating, “January 19, 1990. #KashmirHindus Exodus Day! It marks 35 years since over 500,000 Hindus were brutally expelled from their homes. Those homes still exist but remain haunted and forgotten! #SunayanaKachrooBhide, a victim of this tragedy, has penned a heart-wrenching poem reflecting on the memories of those homes. The verses will resonate with all #KashmiriPandits who endured this monumental tragedy! It is both - SAD & TRUE! #Exodus #19January (sic).”

The exodus of Kashmiri Pandits occurred in the early 1990s when Islamic forces instigated a genocide, forcing the community to flee.
