Anupam Kher Describes Kangana Ranaut's Directorial 'Emergency' as a Tale of Human Errors

Mumbai, Jan 8 (NationPress) Renowned actor Anupam Kher, portraying the revolutionary Jayaprakash Narayan in Kangana Ranaut's directorial venture 'Emergency', has labeled the film a human error story.

The distinguished actor shared his thoughts with IANS during the promotional activities for the film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on January 17.

Regarding the film's narrative, Kher stated to IANS, “It is a Human error story. It's centered around a prime minister, and I have witnessed parts of it. I find myself continually reflecting on the portrayal of Indira Gandhi as an actress. I often revert to cinema instead of the behind-the-scenes aspects. How many actresses are capable of embodying Indira Gandhi's character? We discussed her successful transformation into the role. It goes beyond just wearing a nose similar to Mrs. Gandhi's; it involves truly understanding her fears and insecurities.

He further elaborated on his interpretation of 'Lok Nayak', Jayaprakash Narayan, stating, “He did not assume any official position after the entire incident, which is why many remain unaware of his contributions during that period. Atal ji later ascended to the position of prime minister, while he remained one of the most prominent leaders.”

“Recently, someone inquired, ‘What character do you play in this film?’ I answered, ‘Jayaprakash Narayan.’ Their reaction was, ‘Really? Who was he?’ It highlights the need for the world to recognize his contributions during the emergency. What challenges did he face? What actions did he take? We must not overlook that chapter of history. The cinematography is exceptional. Kangana has gathered an impressive team for this film,” he added.

The film narrates the significant 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi proclaimed a state of emergency nationwide, citing both internal and external threats.
