Kolkata, April 4 (NationPress) The Artists Forum has resolved to file an official police complaint against the production company associated with the tragic demise of Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee. The Forum has expressed their dissatisfaction with the explanations provided thus far.

According to sources, the FIR is set to be filed with the appropriate police station after 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Forum has alleged that the information supplied by the production house, responsible for the shooting of the Bengali television series during which the incident transpired, was insufficient and raised numerous unanswered questions.

Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee held a press conference at Technicians’ Studio late on Friday night. He stated that the Forum had reached out to the production company on April 1 but did not receive a satisfactory reply.

“We anticipated an answer that would address our concerns. Since that did not materialize, we have resolved to file an FIR,” he remarked.

When questioned about the delay in approaching the police, Prosenjit shared that the loss had profoundly affected the industry. “It's impossible to bring back someone who has left us. We were all in shock. It took us a few days to accept that Rahul is no longer with us. Now, we will endeavor to uncover the true cause of his death,” he added.

Actor Shantilal Mukherjee also expressed dissatisfaction with the response received from the production company, leading them to seek legal counsel. “After consulting with lawyers, we decided to file a complaint with the relevant police station, demanding a thorough and impartial investigation,” he told reporters.

Numerous actors from the Bengali film and television sector alleged that the production company’s statement, issued three days post-incident, was inconsistent and failed to address critical issues, including compensation. They further criticized the company’s spokesperson, Leena Gangopadhyay, for not reaching out to Rahul Banerjee’s family following his death.

Meanwhile, social media has seen a surge of posters demanding “Justice for Rahul,” alongside calls for protests seeking accountability.

The 42-year-old actor tragically drowned on March 29 while filming for the television series ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega’ in Talsari, Odisha. Reports indicate that he entered the water just as the tide rose and was swept away. Technicians later retrieved him, but unfortunately, he could not be revived. Initial reports suggest that the cause of death was drowning.

An unnatural death case has been registered at Digha Police Station. This incident has brought the Bengali film and television industry to a standstill, with numerous actors, directors, and technicians expressing their shock and sorrow.

Rahul Banerjee is survived by his mother, wife — actress Priyanka Sarkar, and their 13-year-old son.

Recognized for his supporting roles, Rahul gained fame through ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Amar’ (2008) and subsequently appeared in films including ‘Tumi Asbe Bole’ (2014), ‘Zulfiqar’ (2016), ‘Byomkesh Gotro’ (2018), ‘Biday Byomkesh’ (2018), and ‘The Academy of Fine Arts’ (2025). He was also a well-known figure on television, starring in serials like ‘Hargouri Pice Hotel’ and ‘Mohona’.
