Mumbai, Sep 25 (NationPress) Aryan Khan, the offspring of Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, finds himself in yet another legal predicament. Sameer Wankhede, the IRS officer, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the production company co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, along with the streaming service Netflix and several other entities.
The legal action has been lodged in the Delhi High Court. In his petition, Sameer is seeking a permanent injunction to halt the web series and is demanding damages. This controversy arose after Aryan made disparaging remarks about Sameer, who had detained him during a cruise raid in Mumbai in October 2021 over alleged drug possession.
Sameer Wankhede further claims that the newly launched OTT series ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’, which Aryan directed, contains false, malicious, and defamatory material. He alleges that the portrayal of anti-drug enforcement agencies has been unfairly depicted, damaging public confidence in law enforcement.
The series includes a scene where a character, resembling Sameer, conducts a raid at a party, reminiscent of the October 2021 incident.
Sameer has accused the web series of intentionally including biased and defamatory content against him. He also pointed out that the ongoing case involving Sameer Wankhede and Aryan Khan is currently before the Bombay High Court and a special NDPS court in Mumbai.
Additionally, he highlighted a scene where a character utters, "Satyamev Jayate", followed by an obscene gesture, which he claims is a direct affront to a slogan that is part of the national emblem and violates the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
It has also been alleged that the series contravenes multiple provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code, as it seeks to damage national sentiments through obscene and inappropriate content.
In his lawsuit, Sameer Wankhede has requested damages amounting to Rs 2 crore, which he intends to donate for the treatment of cancer patients at the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital.
The series, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd, is currently streaming on Netflix.
On October 2, 2021, the NCB, led by Sameer, executed a raid on a cruise ship off Mumbai during a party, alleging drug possession among attendees. Aryan Khan, along with others, was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
However, Aryan was cleared by the NCB, as the agency reported that no substantial evidence linked him to the case, leading to the dismissal of charges against him. The NDPS court also ordered the return of Aryan's passport after he was exonerated.
