Los Angeles, Oct 19 (NationPress) Hollywood actor-producer Ashton Kutcher has revealed that his looks have cost him some film roles.
The 47-year-old star noted that he has been overlooked for certain projects due to his leading man appearance being considered inappropriate, as reported by Female First UK.
Speaking at New York Comic Con, and quoted by People magazine, Ashton commented, "I believe every role you land is influenced by your appearance. It plays a significant role in how you convey the character. There are roles I've secured because of my looks, and there are roles I've missed out on for the same reason. It can be quite frustrating at times."
Nonetheless, he mentioned that his experience as a producer has given him insight into the reasoning behind casting choices made by filmmakers and producers.
According to Female First UK, the No Strings Attached star stated, "The goal is to narrate a story through images, and those images must evoke emotions in the audience."
Additionally, Ashton is set to portray a "comedic villain" in the upcoming FX series The Beauty, which he described as a fresh acting challenge.
He elaborated, "Without revealing too much, each of us has a deeply layered role where we embody aspects of ourselves or not, at various points. This allows us to explore insecurities we've hidden away from the world."
The actor expressed his gratitude to Ryan Murphy for providing him the chance to explore his creativity. "Nowadays, it's common to stick to a specific type, as deviating from that contradicts societal expectations on what roles one should or shouldn't take," he continued.
"We have the opportunity to portray complex, multi-dimensional characters. This role has been a true joy—one of the highlights of my career," he added. The Beauty is anticipated to debut in early 2026, and Ashton believes that his character, while a villain, possesses a "good heart."
